Cheap Trick Oven Cleaner

There are some cleaning jobs that are just nasty… such as cleaning that greasy broiler pan, the bottom of the oven after Thanksgiving dinner or the BBQ grill after a football party. The cleaners that are normally used aren’t healthy for us, either.

However, there is an easy way to clean these up that doesn’t involve anything more than stuff you probably already have on hand: white vinegar and baking soda!

I keep a spray bottle of vinegar under the kitchen sink. I use it for all kinds of things, from cleaning the stainless steel appliances to washing fresh veggies.

Baking soda can be used for cooking, laundry, and keeping the refrigerator smelling fresh.

Have you ever tried mixing them together? One is an acid and the other  mildly alkaline, so they react, creating a nice bubbly cleaner that will dissolve grease!

When you want to clean up that broiler pan, put it in the sink and spray it with the vinegar. Get it good and wet. Sprinkle on the baking soda. Wait 10 minutes. Wash away the grime. If it’s really bad, you may have to do it a couple of times.

This also works on the grates from the BBQ grill and burned on food in pans! And it’s not toxic.

The same principle works for cleaning out a slow drain. Dump 12 cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by 12 cup of vinegar. It will dissolve the soap scum!

By the way, I love those metal shakers! They are really handy for all kinds of things, last forever and are stainless steel, so they don’t rust. You can keep one with flour in it next to the stove for making quick gravy from pan drippings.
